1 box cake mix
½ cup butter
3 eggs
1 cup buttermilk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
¾ cup butter
¾ cup shortening
5 cups powdered sugar
1 Tablespoon clear vanilla extract
2 Tablespoons frosting whitener
1–3 Tablespoons milk
2–3 large drops green gel food color
2–3 large drops Red gel food coloring
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (177℃) and prepare 6-inch half sphere pans with cooking spray and a flower nail in the base.
- In a large bowl, combine melted butter, buttermilk, eggs, and vanilla; mix well.
- Add cake mix and stir until moistened, then beat on medium speed for about 2 minutes.
- Pour batter into the prepared pan, keeping it below the rim to avoid overflow.
- Bake for 35-45 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean; cool for 10 minutes before removing from the pan.
- For frosting, beat together butter and shortening; mix in powdered sugar and vanilla until well combined.
- If using frosting whitener, remove 1 cup of frosting, color half red and the rest deep green.
- Add milk to the remaining frosting if needed until spreadable consistency is reached.
- Assemble cake by placing a smear of frosting on a plate, centering the cake on top, and spreading a crumb coat.
- Chill for 10 minutes, then apply a thicker layer of frosting and smooth it out.
- Pipe red frosting for stitching and green frosting for the grass border as desired.
